Scottish Highlands

Scottish Highland Prints

Photographic prints from some of the most scenic locations in the Scottish Highlands. Capturing all that the desolate and dramatic landscapes northern Scotland has to offer, including Glen Shiel, Loch Ness, Aviemore, Rannoch Moor, and the famous Eilean Donan Castle. Surprisingly, the distances involved are not so great – you can get from one side of Scotland to the other in half day. It makes exploring this part of Scotland all the more exciting.

  • Eilean Donan Arches

    Eilean Donan Arches

The Eilean Donan Castle is one of the most recognizable sights in Scotland, particularly the arches that lead to the shore, and this view is a great way to see them. This was a rainy day in the Scottish Highlands in 2011.

  • Isle of Skye

    Isle of Skye

A view of the Isle of Skye, taken from just south of the Kyle of Lochalsh, Scotland, 2011. Skye has some very distinctive looking mountains at this side of the island.

  • Falls of Dochart

    Falls of Dochart

There were lots of good opportunities to get long exposure shots at this idyllic setting at the Falls of Dochart, in the picturesque town of Killen in the Scottish Highlands, 2013. In the end, I went for only a very brief hold of the shutter, as some of the turbulent water really did add to the image.

  • Kilchurn Castle

    Kilchurn Castle

Kilchurn Castle; a very difficult landmark to get a shot of without getting your feet wet in the boggy marsh between the lake and the nearest road. Argyll & Bute mountain landscape, Scotland. 2015.

  • Glenmore Reindeer

    Glenmore Reindeer

A privilege to get to see these highland reindeer up and close and personal on a reservation in the Scottish mountains near Aviemore, Scotland, 2016

  • Scottish Reindeer

    Scottish Reindeer

We go to see these reindeer at very close quarters, even getting the chance to feed them. I would guess that they are very used to human contact on this mountain reservation at Glenmore, near Aviemore, 2016.

  • Reindeer Landscape

    Reindeer Landscape

This is another view of a Scottish Highland mountain landscape, complete with a couple of reindeer for good measure. This on a refuge at Glenmore, near Aviemore, 2016.

  • Glenmore Panorama

    Glenmore Panorama

This is a panoramic view of the reindeer refuge at Glenmore, near Aviemore in the Scottish Highlands, 2016. It was in the middle of summer, but actually quite cold up here.

  • Loch Ness

    Loch Ness

This is a view of Loch Ness, near Drumnadrochit, 2016. This is a huge body of water, and with such very large fetch lengths, it's no wonder that it can get so choppy. Scotland, 2016.

  • Loch Ness at Drumnadrochit

    Loch Ness at Drumnadrochit

I wish there had been more vantage points for a view of the infamous Loch Ness, and also better weather. This was as good as it got, but it did show just how expansive this body of water is. This is just south of Drumnadrochit, Scottish highlands panorama, 2016.

  • Glen Shiel Mist

    Glen Shiel Mist

This is a very picturesque part of Scotland, with some dramatic views on the drive between Loch Ness and the west coast. This particularly view was on a rainy afternoon in the Scottish Highlands, specifically at Glen Shiel, 2016.

  • Eilean Donan Castle Rain

    Eilean Donan Castle Rain

A more sodden view of the Eilean Donan Castle, an a gloomy day on the west coast of Scotland, 2016

  • Eilean Donan Castle

    Eilean Donan Castle

The famous Eilean Donan Castle on Scotland's west coast. The arches seen here are photographed from a slightly different angle than most tourists shot from. 2016

  • Eilean Donan Castle Sunshine

    Eilean Donan Castle Sunshine

The sun broke out, only briefly, but for long enough for me to get this shot of the world famous Eilean Donan Castle, a treasured landmark on Scotland's west coast. 2016

  • The Skye Bridge

    The Skye Bridge

Looking out from the Kyle of Lochalsh towards the famous Scottish Isle of Skye. The bridge, once a toll, has been in place since about 1994, replacing a long serving ferry. 2016.

  • Inveroe Reflections

    Inveroe Reflections

The yachts and the seaweed pierce the brilliantly still waters of Loch Leven as the clouds settle on the Scottish Highlands hills of Invercoe. 2022.

  • Ballachulish

    Ballachulish

Some magnificent reflections from the yachts moored at Ballachulish. As a sea loch, it really was amazing at times to see such still and calm waters, particularly under such an ominous sky. Scotland, 2022.

  • Corpach Wreck

    Corpach Wreck

The Corpach Wreck, on the banks of Loch Eil, just north of Fort William, with Ben Nevis as a backdrop. One of the most photographed spots in Scotland - this was my turn to get the shot, after 12 years of photographing Scotland. 2022

  • Loch Eil Wreck

A black and white of the Corpach Wreck, looking back towards Fort William. Scotland, 2022.

  • Monday Blues

    Monday Blues

Taken early on a Monday morning in the summer of 2022 - the waters of Loch Leven very gently lapping on the shoreline at Invercoe was just totally idyllic. Totally the best start to a week that I could imagine. Scotland.

  • Invercoe Waters

    Invercoe Waters

I imagine these waters are often a raging torrent, given the almost mesmeric shapes that have been carved on the surrounding rocks. Located just above Invercoe on the way to Loch Lochan. It's very difficult to photograph but a fantastic stop on the trail. 2022.
