Oban is one of those cities that tourists eventually come across, and also immediately fall for. The bustling harbour serves the various islands off the west coast, acting as a gateway to Scotland. Despite having all of the features of a normal west of Scotland town, it still retains a certain charm – from the sea front chippy, the ice cream shops, the cries of the gulls as the trawlers return to port, and the daily excursions. It’s a city that I am glad to say that I have become very familiar with. I have spent many a day wistfully staring out beyond the maritime lanes to the atmospheric horizon that is the Scottish Western Isles.
