London

City of London

London, or the Big Smoke as it is known to those from the North, is one of the oldest and largest cities in the modern world. Despite the derision you may hear from those in the north that refer to it as the ‘smoke’, I actually love London. I feed off the energy on the tube and the throngs of people, and can see the potential for something unique and interesting in every nook and cranny of the city. It is one of those cities that simultaneously wears its history, but yet is embracing of every modern convenience and technology. Take the juxtaposition of the gleaming Shard and Tower Bridge, or the towering Fleet Street towers and the Victorian architecture – I challenge anyone not to find something interesting and even captivating in this city.

    Rising Towers

London has seen an explosion of towers rising up in the centre of the city; many with unique designs, such as 20 Fenchurch Street, known better as the 'Walkie Talkie'. Seen here from the south side of the Thames. 2018.

Clean and angular lines always lends itself to black and white photography; so that's exactly what I did for this image of the Shard tower, rising high above London above the London Bridge train station. 2018.

With such a lot of detail, I wouldn't normally convert this type of image to Black and White, but there's such a contrast between the highlights and shadows that I think it works.
