Every now and again, I dabble around the edges of astrophotography – light trails around the North Star, or capturing the clusters of the Milky Way itself. For either type of photography, it really demands a very dark night sky, uncluttered by light pollution. This means my opportunities are generally limited to trips out of the big city. It is a very demanding genre, requiring much skill and discipline to ensure the camera is set up properly before leaving it to run for up to an hour. Clearly there is much to be learned and practiced, but I do hope to continue my education in all things related to the night sky.
