Texas

Austin, San Antonio, and Rural Texas

A collection of photographs from Texas, including the state capitol of Austin, McKinney Falls, the San Antonio Riverwalk, the Alamo, and the Fort Worth Water Gardens. This collection essentially all of my non-Houston and coastal Texas images. This includes some sunsets taken out in the Texas country side, of the far west side of Houston.

  • Rural Texas

    Rural Texas

A random Saturday night drive out west of Katy (Houston suburb) found this stereotypical rural Texas landscape. A few textures added for good measure. 2013

  • Brazos Crossing

    Brazos Crossing

It’s not very often that I’d be so cavalier with a live railway, but it was an enticing photographic opportunity. This bridge crosses the Brazos River, just west of the greater Houston area. 2013

  • Brookshire

    Brookshire

I came across this dilapidated old farm house, with what looked like a crop spreader close by. This is in Brookshire, a rural area west of the greater Houston area. I hung around for a while here as it offered an interesting foreground for some expansive Houston skies. 2013

  • Deep in the Heart of Texas

Deep in the Heart of Texas

This is a photo-manipulation – two shots taken from the same spot, but an hour apart. Capturing the sunset and the star field above the big skies that are so typical of rural Texas. In this case, near Brookshire on the far west side of Houston. 2013.

  • Telegraph Road

    Telegraph Road

Simple shot, but one with vibrant colours. This is rural Texas, near Brookshire on the far west side of Houston. 2013.

  • Texas Renaissance Festival

    Texas Renaissance Festival

A knight posing for the crowd at the Texas Renaissance Festival. 2013

  • Texas Renaissance Festival

    Texas Renaissance Festival

OK. Not really Americana, but this is a big deal in Texas - the Renaissance Festival in Plantersville, not too far from Conroe. 2013

  • Sixth Street

    Sixth Street

This is Sixth Street in Downtown Austin; the scene of most the late night activity in Texas' state Capitol, 2013.

  • Austin State Capitol

    Austin State Capitol

A textured image of the State Capitol Building in Austin, Texas, 2013. This is actually taller than the US Congress. It's true what they say -everything has to be bigger in Texas!

  • Austin State Capitol

    Austin State Capitol

Another view of the impressive State Capitol Building in Austin, Texas, 2013. The orange hues on the stone work are authentic (not a photo edit), which makes it one of the more distinctive government buildings.

  • Austin State Capitol Rotunda

    Austin State Capitol Rotunda

Despite what you may think about Texas’ politics, the Rotunda in the State Capitol Building is quite magnificent. Difficult to do it justice with this photograph, but I think the contrasting light is quite striking. 2013

  • Austin State Capitol

    Austin State Capitol

A view of the Texas State Capitol building in Austin. I believe that this may be the tallest state capitol building in the US? Texas loves to the the biggest…..2013.

  • McKinney Falls

    McKinney Falls

An interesting water body, on the outskirts of Austin, Texas. This is the Onion River, taken on Thanksgiving weekend, Texas. 2013

  • McKinney Falls

    McKinney Falls

I’m sure that the perspective here might be quite misleading, but this is a relatively small waterfall – only a few feet high! Onion River, near Austin, Thanksgiving weekend, Texas. 2013

  • McKinney Falls

    McKinney Falls

McKinney Falls on the Onion River, near Austin. This was taken on Thanksgiving weekend in 2013. Quite a pleasant place for a casual walk around on quite an alien landscape in the middle of Texas!

  • Lockhart Courthouse

    Lockhart Courthouse

This is Lockhart Courthouse, located in Caldwell County, just to the south east of Austin, Texas. A historic structure, constructed in the late 19th century.

  • Rusk Railroad

    Rusk Railroad

Texas State Railroad’s 1940’s era RS2 diesel locomotive, with an excursion train near Rusk. 2014

  • Vibrant San Antonio

    Vibrant San Antonio

A colourful and busy scene on the San Antonio Riverwalk. Experimented with a very fast aperture for this shot - looking to try and draw out some contrast between foreground and background details, particularly the trees. 2017

  • Downtown San Antonio

    Downtown San Antonio

Not sure what this building is, or was, but it looked interesting enough lit up in the early evening in downtown San Antonio. 2017

  • East Houston Street

    East Houston Street

East Houston Street, lit up nicely on Memorial Day weekend in San Antonio, 2017.

  • The Alamo

    The Alamo

Oft-Photographed sites are difficult to capture in any kind of unique way, and The Alamo is no different. What you can avoid, though, is trying to photograph it during the day with so many people swarming around it. San Antonio, 2017.

  • San Antonio Riverwalk

    San Antonio Riverwalk

A mild texture applied to this low light scene in the busy heart of the San Antonio Riverwalk; one of the true success stories in riverside regeneration in the U.S. 2017.

  • Austin Proper

    Austin Proper

The distinctive looking Austin Proper skyscraper, taken from across the Austin River. Texas, 2022.
