The Texas Panhandle, including Amarillo, is some 600 miles from my current home in Houston. Therefore, I have had little opportunity to explore this part of the Texas landscape. Many might wonder why I would want to – the landscape is flat, and a little stark. However, there is much to see. Amarillo itself serves as a waypoint for the Texas Route 66, with various decaying relics from this famous highway dotted along the Interstate 40 route. Also in the vicinity is the Palo Duro canyon, a massive gorge in this flat and expansive landscape.
