Coastal Louisiana represents one of the most diverse but vulnerable coastlines in the U.S. In places it is rapidly disappearing due to sea level rise. The deltaic qualities accelerate this process, with much of the landscape at or just above sea level. This, though, creates a vibrant coastal habitat, which can sometimes be breathtaking. This collection of images of Coastal Louisiana includes the Bonne Carre Spillway, the Mississippi River, Barataria and Lake Salvador alligators, and the sunsets of Lake Pontchartrain, Lafitte, Kenta Canal, the Le Branche Wetlands, and St. Charles Parish.
