I have come to consider Sedona as a place that I would no complaints about retiring to. This desert landscape is just beautiful. The city is nestled in the scrub-like sprawl of the Coconino National Forest, amid the towering sandstone buttes that surround the Broken Arrow landscape. Such is my affinity for Sedona, that at the conclusion of the drive down the stunning highway 89-A, the landscape opens up into to layers of buttes, and a warm glow descends. While Sedona may be swelteringly hot, there is plenty of escapism from the heat on offer – Slide Rock and the various forest trails along the banks of Oak Creek offer a refreshing break from the elements. It’s a long way from my actual home, but the attraction of Sedona cannot be ignored.
