Lake Havasu

Arizona’s Blazing Heat

My one trip to Lake Havasu City was in the ungodly heat of July. While battling the heat was a story itself, it was a stop of the road I enjoyed. It did not seem like a strong tourist location, but there was much of interest in this small desert city on the state line between Arizona and California. The city sits in the Colorado River as it emerges from the Black Canyon and the imposing landscape of Lake Meade. As such, and due to a lack of rainfall, there is a very low sediment load on this water body, which presents a very clear and pleasant sight – certainly one that is worthy of spending the day on a pleasure craft. That’s exactly, what we did, including lunch grounded in a bed of river reads. Of further interest, Lake Havasu City is also the home of the relocated London Bridge – the 1830’s original - which was demolished, transported and reconstructed (stone by stone) across a dry basin in the 1960’s. The water body that exists now was created to provide the bridge with something to do!
