Titan II Missile
This is the TitanII Missile, an ICBM from the Cold War era - this silo, and its inhabitant, is now a museum to the would be conflict with the USSR. This silo is near Tucson, Arizona. 2017.
Complete with the hook ups to there silo, the Titan II Missile in southern Arizona is one of few remaining monuments to the Cold War. This former ICBM, thankfully, was never used in anger, but it is a breathtaking sight nonetheless. 2017.
Titan II Missile Silo
This is the Titan II Missile, safe in a silo that it will never leave under its own power. The former nuclear ICMB is now a cold war artifact - an important an breathtaking reminder of a significant period in history. On a side note, it was very difficult to get this shot as the glazing did nothing to shield the new from the Arizona sun. 2017
A Bumpy Road In Arizona
Traveling through the desert from the Titan Missile Museum site south and east to Tombstone, I could have stopped every 5 minutes to take a shot of this amazing scenery. 2017.
Arizona Cactus
I was sure there were many better cactus images to come on this trip, but i couldn't help myself at times. This bunch was seen on the road east away from the Titan Missile Museum. Arizona, 2017.
Great Day for a Ride
It truly was a great day for a ride - great weather and wide open roads in southern Arizona on a Saturday lunch time. What's not to like? These guys were spotted cruising down the Arizona #90 towards Whetstone. 2017.
Winding Road in Southern Arizona
There's a winding road in every landscape in the U.S. it seems; the more the merrier though as are endlessly picturesque sights. This was on the Arizona #83 heading south towards Whetstone. Mount Wrightson, I believe in the background. 2017.
Southern Arizona
The is the Arizona #82 between Whetstone and Tombstone. Another fantastic landscape in southern Arizona. This road, though, seemed to have seen better days given the myriad of repair scars on the tarmac. I guess the sun just beats down on this surface all day long. 2017.
Desert Mailboxes
The U.S. desert and the U.S. mailbox are iconic images in America - so combining them both is a sure winner, right? This sight is between Whetstone and Tombstone in Southern Arizona. 2017.
Mount Wrightson Foothills
Arizona #83 has lots of winding stretches with some fantastic vistas. A number of times i had to double back to park up and get a shot of this view; just as in this image. This was taken just north of the Mount Wrightson foothills. 2017.
West Sahuarita
Just another line of rural mailboxes, this time of W Sahuarita, between Pecan Grove and the Santa Rita foothills, southern Arizona. 2017.
OK Corral
This is the modern day reenactment of the shoot out at OK Corral, in the remote southern town of Tombstone, Arizona. These actors were portraying the part of the Earp Brothers, and of course, Doc Holliday in their battle with the Cowboys. 2017.
Bird Cage Theatre
This is the Bird Cage Theatre, one of the few remaining buildings from there Wyatt Earp era of the 1880's. A tour of this theatre worth the trip to Tombstone alone. The place is a treasure of trove of historical artifacts; from bullet holes in the ceiling to artwork on the walls. 2017.
Virgil
Bearing an uncanny resemblance to the film portrayal of Virgil Earp; this artwork is on display at the end of the main drag through Tombstone in southern Arizona. 2017.
Tombstone Marshall
When one thinks of the Tombstone Marshall, one doesn't necessarily think of a cop riding around in a Ford Explorer. But there you have it; even on the dusty streets of a once manic western mining town, you can't escape reminders of modern life. Arizona 2017.
Wild West
Wander around the back of the main drag through Tombstone and you'll find all sorts of artwork and artifacts, including this carving of what may be the Cowboys (or some other gunslingers). I love the windmill in the background - completes the western feel to this famous town. Arizona 2017.
Tombstone Scenes
I was looking for a classic western scene to photograph in Tombstone; something with as few contemporary features as possible. I like this image because i may well have achieved, but i also like the effect of the shallow depth of field. Particularly catching a moving object with a wide open aperture. Arizona 2017.
Interstate 10 Arizona
This is Interstate 10, in south east Arizona, looking east into a rising moon. I-10 stretches from Florida to Los Angeles, and i think the only state where i have not driven a bunch of miles on this highway is New Mexico. 2017
Interstate 10 Sunset
Another view of the Interstate 10, this time looking west into the setting sun and towards a very distant Tucson. I love these lonely highway images; very much an Americana thing. Arizona, 2017.
Little Miami
It was a Sunday morning, and little corner of eastern Arizona- fair enough, but this place was utterly deserted, which left me free to roam around and take whatever photos i liked. 2017.
Deserted Miami
Another image of a deserted high street in Miami, Arizona. It's probably an amazing contrast with the *other* Miami. It was a Sunday morning, in fairness, but it still had an eerie feel to it. 2017.
Dry Miami
This was a common sight throughout my trip through Arizona - a dried up river bed. Dry weather can explain it, but apparently we had just missed snow I'm higher elevations. This is in the backstreets of Miami, the lesser known Miami, tucked away in the east of Arizona. 2017.
Sunday Morning
Sunday morning's are quiet at the best of times, but this scene was eerily quiet. This is Miami, a small historic downtown in eastern Arizona. Quaint and timeless barely begun to describe this place. 2017.
